My cheap Lowes Multimeter seved its purpose and is pretty much shot. I use a Multimeter to check for hot wires as I putter. I would like this multimeter to ACCURATELY read low DC voltages, but other than that it just has to work. Any recommendations, maybe off of Amazon?

I have several meters, one a expensive Fluke and one a freeby Harbor Freight.
When I got my new camper with LED light,I checked the power draw with both meters.
I then checked the draw of the TV with DVD player,
the heater, the waterpump and the Fantastic fan.Iused both meters to see if there was any difference and and they were both very accurate.
I did find at higher amps, over 4,that the leads on the cheapo meter would not give good readings, but when I switch leads with the Fluke, the readings were good.
Anyone with 12v shoud have a good Vom and know how to use it

I've got a clamp on DC amp meter one from Craftsman but I most always grab a Harbor Freight one as they are almost cheaper than buying replacement batteries for them. I keep one in the car, truck, house two in the RV about three in the barn and I don't know how many I've gave to the kids.

I have a Fluke dmm, A Sperry analog and about 6 FREE Harbor Freight meters. I usually end up using the free ones. Small and easy to use. Accrute enough. If I need better I bring up the big guns.

X2 on the audible sound. It's also nice to have a case to try to store the meter and the probes (may never get them in the way them came out). I have a few from Radio Shack and I'm looking to buy their Model 22-820 for $30.

My only suggestion is when you get one make sure it has the audible sound on it. Very handy not to have to look at the meter when you do a continuity test.

I would suggest a craftsman Clamp on Ammeter. It allows you to put the clamp over wires and see how much current your drawing even on DC. This is similar to the one I have had for years and it has served me well. Most of the less expensive ones cannot do DC amps through the clamp but this one can. Handy at the campground as well.

If not free at Harbor Freight usually about $5. Walmart has one for about $20.

get a free one at harbor freight. I must have gotten about a dozen over the years. lacking that, lowe's/home depot sells them for under $10 IIRC.

I have a cheap Craftsman meter that is a couple of years old and still works fine. They're frequently under 20 bucks on sale. The LCD screen somehow got cracked in my toolbox but still works fine.

I've seen a lot of members using the HF meter which is very cheap and seems to work for the most part. Never owned one so can't say good or bad about it.

Any of the LOWES WALMART or any number of AutoParts stores Including AMAZON have these inexpensive $7-$20 multimeter. Northern Tools I think it was used to give one out FREE with purchases...

NOTE: Must have been Harbor Freight giving out the free ones after reading all the comments below...

Every RV'er should not be without one. I use mine just about everyday checking something...

I'm satisfied with my Craftsman Multimeter.
I've had a couple cheap HF units, but they don't hold up.
