remote control propane regulator or valve ?

How are you guys turning the flow of the propane tank off and on? , Its getting old opening my propane tank storage box and manually turning the tank flow on.
I only use Propane for a Propex heater , I would like to find a electronically controlled Propane valve and wire it so it turns on automatically when I flip the Propex switch.
Any thoughts ideas or experiences?

The only time my valves are turned off is when a bottle is empty and taken off to fill. If there is a leak its not safe to use even if only on when being used.

Like all the others said, a detector/12v valve would work just fine,......or if its too much work to turn it off and on, just leave it on. My propane stays on 24/365, except while filling. If you can't leave it on because its leaking, fix it.

My 1997 Fleetwood motorhome has a factory installed propane leak detector with a solenoid to shut off the propane flow should you turn off the detector, or it picks up a leak.

I thought it was a Federal requirement to have one after 1995 or something.

If you have a propane detector, you can normally shut off propane flow by turning off the switch. However propane is heavy, so the leak detector much be located near the floor to pick up the leaks, thus will be difficult for a old man like me to reach. I sometimes turn it on with my bare foot (socks on) but your results might vary.

If your RV already has one of these installed, operated by the LP detector, you could just cut the hot wire and route it through a switch. If you want the propane shut off, turn off the switch and it would act just like the LP detector had detected a leak and shut the propane off.

I have an old CCI (I think) propane detector that after I open the tank valve, I have to flip the slide switch on the detector panel and it beeps until the system is pressurized. There is a slow flashing green LED to show it is functioning. Safe-T-Alert has a replacement for the old CCI system. The STA system is about $280. I think you could adapt it to work and act as your alarm at the same time.
