REMOVING DOUBLE SIDED TAPE

I have a broken mirror on my back wall that is installed with double sided tape and need to remove it. Does anyone have any good ideas how to remove the mirror and tape. Thanks

That is exactly what my coworkers (the ones who invented double sided tape) recommend.
They prefer fishing line over steel wire.

Well your coworkers are correct. I didn't use the fishing line but steel wire about 24 or 26 gauge with two pair of plaires on each side. I put the tape on the frt and it did not break any more. I must say it never even ruined the old tape which I can use again. I appreciate all the reply's and enjoy reading RV.net. The gang came thru again.

  • Lighter fluid! turns "sticky" into jelly.

edit: ZIPPO lighter fluid, NOT charcoal!:E
  • Many Thanks. Never though of that. I was wondering about a hair dryer and heat. However I'm incline with the floss or fishing line. I'll let you folks know which works best. The mirror has a safety backing on it but I will put packing tape on the frt. also.

WD40 is good for cleaning up the residue from the wall...

A "picture" IS worth a thousand words.
  • Fishing line or stainless picture frame hanging wire.

Get the fishing line or wire between the back of the mirror and the wall and drag it through the double sided tape with kind of "seesawing" through motion.

You DO want to take some duct tape or packaging tape and place it on the broken mirror in a criss cross pattern and depending on how big up and down and straight across..

The tape will hold any big pieces that break in the process.

Wear some good leather gloves, eye protection..

Barring that try a heat gun (ELECTRIC, DO NOT USE A FLAME THROWING TORCH) to help soften the adhesive (but don't over heat the area, it can set the wall on fire if not careful).
  • Pry mirror and frame off wall. Use Good-off, Goo-gone, carpet stain remover, or mineral spirits to dissolve the tape bond.
