Replacement Water Heater Part

There is a 90 degree 1/2" elbow coming out of the back of my heater, male on one end and female on the other. It is bluish/grey in color. I've been told that that product is no longer made. My coach is a 2006. It appears I have two options: 1) galvanized pipe. 2) Schedule 40 PVC.
Suggestions?
Either would work; however, what about long-term implications?
  • Bought a Schdule 40 PVC street elbow (although I didn't know that's what it is called) at Home Depot, then on the way home, stopped at an RV place and they ordered the appropriate part for me.
I took a look at the Qest Street Elbow in Chris Bryant's post above, and was just about to ask what Mpt/Fpt meant when I figured it out all by my self.
When it comes to plumbing, I am a rather good woodworker.

  • This is called a street elbow and you can get it at just about any hardware store.
  • A street elbow? They come in almost every material known to man. Galvanized runs the risk of dissimilar material corrosion, while metal threaded into plastic runs the risk of cracking the plastic. I'd look at brass.
  • What is the make and model of the water heater?
