Roof sealant type?

I have a general question on my Fuzion 295 Toy hauler. On the roof, all vents and fixtures have a seal coating of some type on the top of the flanges and screws. I was wondering what sealant this might be? I thought perhaps Eternabond double stick but I am not sure. I have noticed this type of product is used as a matter of routine on my previous RV's as well. I see some cracks in it now that my unit is a few years old. I simply used the RV roof caulk to seal up and maintain the roof. I was also thinking to use an eternabond strip across my front seam where the cap and rubber roof meet. Is there any drawback to using this as opposed to slathering on more sealer every 6-12 months?
  • Double stick is sticky on both sides and can be used under flanges and such. It's like the tape without the top layer of rubber on it.

Eternabond's the way to go but it can be a ton of work to do properly. All the work is in the preparation. The alternative is what the OPs doing; just apply more Dicor.

Properly applied Eternabond will last for 10 years or longer, but done incorrectly, is not worth a hoot!
  • That's strange - it's a tape. I don't see how it would work to seal up fixtures that have flanges and screws on them. I use non-leveling seal on the underside of the fixture, clean off excess seeping from the outer edges, and them lay down enough self-leveling seal to spread a bit with a putty knife, knowing that it will settle down and spread out even more beyond the edge where the fixture meets the roof.
  • I used Eternabond on the front and rear cap seals on our 96 Southwind.

It's a one time repair. You won't be slathering on more sealant every 6-12 months.

Mine has been on for several years. No problems.

Use the Eternabond, you won't be disappointed.
