I;m going to reroute the galley tank discharge to the black and grey water discharge pipe. Is the rv black pipe the same as Home Depot white pipe? If not, where can I get the black pipe?

Chiefward,

Just curious, are you eliminating the gray tank altogether? In other words, why are you doing this mod?

Thanks

My galley tank has a separate discharge point and I want to combine to only one grey, black, galley discharge point. When I get to a dump station, I don't want to hold up people dumping from two locations. I just bought a 2004 Dutchmen and in the process of "modding" it to fit my needs. This is just one of several modifications I plan to make.

Having one discharge point for the two separate tanks (gray and black) is a great idea and the RVs should come that way. Many do. Most folks with that system will dump the black water tank first and then flush out the line with the gray water discharge.

Most of the ABS pipe you will find is standard size. Some of the "P" traps under sinks may be 1-1/4" instead of 1-1/2". When I have the option, I always use the ABS pipe instead of the PVC pipe for DWV use.
Make sure you use ABS "solvent" cement for gluing the ABS pipe.

Don't do it like my original ABS pipe in my 1969 Avion camper.

This is another pipe of "original" installation. Notice the socket depth and angle.

This is what they should look like.

This is a proper looking dirty arm.

It looks a little different than the original one.

On some TTs the black ABS is a odd size. Not available at Home Depot etc. I got mine from a RV parts supply business.
It's been a few years since that project, so I can't recall the size. I also don't know how widespread this is in the industry.

The ABS and PVC used on RV's is the EXACT same you can get at any plumbing supply or Lowes/HD. Doug (RV tech for 34 years)

White is PVC and black is ABS. They can be coupled with the correct fittings or rubber couplers. Since you asked such a basic question, I suggest you do a lot of research before you tackle this and get some help from a friend with plumbing experience.

I think the OP just asked a legitimate ques. :h And got legitimate answers.

Thanks for y'all quick response. I just didn't remember see the black ABS at HD. Will do a search at my HD for ABS. ( I didn't know what it was called.)

Depends where you are at in Lincoln Nebraska our plumbing code does not allow it so none of the stores (Menards lowes home depot) here stock ABS. You can switch to pvc with any pvc fitting they make a special gluePVC TO ABS and Yes it is more than likely 1 1/2" pipe. I have worked on alot of campers in the last 15 years and have never seen any with different than standard size pipes there is standard pvc and tubular pvc (the p-traps are tubular) make sure to support the pipe well and you should have not problems.

BTW PVC is alot more DIY friendly and holds up better to heat and freeze thaw cycles.

P traps are white but the rest of the pipe is ABS black.

It seems that "huntindog" and myself have the odd stuff here. My drain piping is black, but not the standard size. Make sure before you start cutting.

Home Depot should have it.......but it may only be 2' lengths

But they'll have boxes and boxes of fittings
Is it time for your medication or mine?

From the galley sink it's just going to be 1.5" standard ABS.
