Security cameras for my motorhome

I am researching security cameras. We will be taking to the road in about a month as full-time RVers in our new class C. There are a lot of features advertised and Reolink seems to pop up as one of the best. Are there other brands I should look at for comparison?

Another system you might want to consider is Arlo. It's wireless, you get an instant text message anytime the camera is activated by motion. If you get a message you can view the saved video for that message on your smartphone and there is a real-time feature that can be use to view in real-time what the cameras sees.

You mentioned reolink and they seem good value. We have the Yi home cameras and they work well with no subscription to cloud (sd card). Remember if you want to check on your rig from another location , get motion alerts etc - the cameras need ac power and a wifi connection to internet.

I’ve wondered if there is a multi-camera “backup” system that could also serve as a security system, but I would also want to use the cameras to spot and record nighttime wildlife around the campsite. In addition I’d also like a front-facing camera that can help deal with low hanging branches when moving and show me the large blind spot in front while parked.

I’m dreaming too big I’m afraid but it would be nice to be able to use a camera system for multiple purposes.

we have used our rear camera to see if anyone or anything is messing around with our towed.. few times when we were parked in a walmart lot. false alarms, but good to be sure.

Foscams have a good rep, and there are lots of models.
The security cams designed for home use can usually be adapted for mobile use in motorhomes or towables. Systems like "Ring" and so on could be adapted to work on the road, depending on their requirements for wifi or cellular tower availability.
I would think that trail cams, as was mentioned, and/or dash cams could also be adapted to keep an eye on things, inside or outside your rolling home, if you think a little bit outside the box and get creative.
It might be easier to adapt a home security system to work on the road, than to find a good effective mobile system.

In our 8th year on the road and we have never had any problems. Haven't liked a couple of campgrounds we pulled in to, so just continued on our way. Have never felt unsafe but we also don't go into the big cities. We travel US hwys and state roads and small towns.

Like others said, listen to your inner voice. Call it whatever you like, but a year ago we stopped at a rest area for the night and it was just getting to dusk, and i went outside to do a walk around.. When i got to the side of the rv that faced a grassy area, i saw 4 used hypodermic needles in the grass! One had what looked like a milky substance and another with what looked like blood.... Contacted the authorities and left! Then we have also used some rest areas that are nicer than the rv parks we were in! (tenn, has some beautiful rest areas)

OR ANY PLACE that makes you feel uncomfortable to stop at whether it is a campground, rest stop, gas station or even a Walmart parking lot.

Being aware of your surroundings by being observant.

Stopped at a gas station in a suburb of a pretty good size city, realized quickly that that area must have a rather high crime rate when I went to pay for the fuel and the attendant was behind 2" thick BULLET PROOF glass! Just had a little slot in the counter at counter height to push the money to the attendant.. Marked that area on our Atlas as a place to never stop for fuel again.

Been on some roads in NY that give me the willies at the rest stops, felt like you are in the "Pen" with stainless toilets, sinks and even stainless mirrors on the walls.. Nothing like sittin' on ice cold stainless steel seats in the winter to get you in a hurry to finish your business.

Black flash trail cams are handy, portable, inexpensive and easy to operate. They can be hung and padlocked to a tree, picnic table or under your RV. Don't drive away and forgot it.

What are your security concerns when fulltime? We have been on the road since 1996 and so far have not experienced theft or other campsite issues. Just a suggestion, try it for a while and let your experience guide you.
