  • Yes the data side of the cellular network is INDEED a cash cow for the cell phone providers!
  • I see so many posts about using your smart phone.

From my understanding there are practically NO phone providers left that offer 'unlimited' data. And/or throttle you back after so much usage.

So how do you all justify paying for the cost of going over your data package of data and throttling back while on the road accessing the internet on your laptop? My guess is a couple of hours on the computer uses up quite a bit of data pretty fast?

Very fimular with the hotspots & such, I manage 5,231 Ipads/Iphones/Droids, Not counting the dieing list of the BlackBerry users!

I'm looking to have an internal wired/wireless networks. Some of my devices have web based apps, e.g. Morningstar charge controller, that needs a network. Also want to install a 3TB NAS as well for all our personal files & such. A NAS with an optical drive for backups would be ideal.

The Sierra device would allow me to mount up front & then place a remote cell antenna on the front cap.
Not sure if any of the verizon hots spots have that feature. I guess I'll need to dig deeper in the Verizon hardware list.

The announcement of the Sierra device, interesting reading

    Thanks for the reply.
  • You dont need a wireless gateway. All you need is some method of getting your internet. Either via something like a Verizon air card or wifi enabled smart phone. Either will become a wifi router for your devices.
