Slide out jammed

The bedroom slide out on 2009 Damon Challenger 377 has jammed OPEN. Cable operation with cables on 4 corners. One of the lower cables becomes slack and appears frayed. Other 3 remain taught. The slide functions about 3-4" while trying to close but then jams. Extends back to full open without issue. I am assuming that 1 cable is broken or bound on pulley. Any suggestions for manually returning the slide to closed in order to travel to repair center. Closest repair is 90 miles and no one offers mobile service. Thanks!
  • You'll want to get a look up top of the slide. That is where you can see the chain and gear system that pulls on the cables. If the cable is broken it may be getting tangled up in things.
  • Look outside and try to determine if in fact a cable has broken. When one of my retraction cables broke, I was able to use a floor jack and a 2x4 to slightly lift the corner of the slides broken cable and then slowly retract the slide while my son guided the floor jack. Fortunately, we were parked on asphalt which facilitated the use of the floor jack.

The motor and cables can be accessed inside your unit. At the top of the slide there should be a decorative piece (wood trim) that can easily be removed. Mine was attached with velcro.

If a cable is broken, that is a whole different story. Due a search on this site. Wish you the best.

  • Make sure that nothing has fallen in the area where you bring the slide in. Sometimes something will fall in and jam the bottom of the slide.

  • Thanks for all the help. One of these ideas has got to save the day. I'm going to start at the first one and work my way down. If I can just get it back in, the shop is waiting. No mobile service available. Although the service manual, Doug, makes me consider a home repair. Tremendous amount of info. I appreciate what this forum is able to do!
