While the charge controller is juicing up the batteries during the day I realized that the BIRD system is also pulling the Aux Start Solenoid thus charging the chassis batteries as well. Not a problem though, it designed to do that BUT...
When I equalize the house batteries the chassis batteries get equalized as well. Not sure if getting 15 VDC for 2 hours is good for them. I "believe" they are sealed lead acid.
Two ideas,
Place a disconnect switch next to the Aux start solenoid.
OR
I could setup a relay connected to the Midnight Solar charge controller. When I have solar, the controller will disconnect the aux. start solenoid...At the end of the day the controller will connect the aux. start solenoid when their is no solar.
With the controller disconnecting the aux start solenoid the charge controller will be charging the house batteries while driving down the road. At night the CATS alternator would be charging the house batteries. I have the small stock solar panel still connected to the chassis batteries so that they get a small charge during the day.
Ideas, thoughts?
