Soot at water heater exaust

Newer unit Atwood 6 gal water heater. Just use the water heat up hunting and was washing the back side when I noticed black on the screen/shield on the door. I opened the door and found a slight ring on th einside where the flame is also . :h
Question?? Is there an adjustment , no warrentee.

    Running rich because; something is preventing efficient burn. Could be insects or build up of junk or adjusting tube is out of adjustment.

    Here is vid to adjust tube AFTER you make sure no junk in the way. Don't torque the little tiny screw very much. It's just holding cheap sheet metal together.

  • You can adjust the flame be loosening and sliding the adjustment tube on the burner tube. Look at the flame. If it isn't a strong blue flame, you'll need to clean the burner tube. I used pipe cleaner. Takes about 5 minutes. I carry pipe cleaner with me now in case this happens while camping.
