I have been replacing the cheap pot metal striker bolts with steel myself,, Way better, way way better.

The problem is that the highest stress point on the striker bolt is also the weakest point on the bolt.. I do the repair two ways.

ONE: a specially carved steel bolt (A Machienist makes 'em for me)

Or I machine a slot in the back of the existing bolt and use a mending bar that fits in teh slot and screws and adheasive, Not one failure yet doign it this way.
