- fourthclassCExplorerThanks Mex !!! I will be working on it tonight as I need to get a new inspection sticker ASAP.
- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerBrake/Turn signals function through the turn signal switch. Brake lights also function AFTER passing through the turn signal switch.
Find the entirely separate brake light switch under dash. Look for mechanical linkage connecting the push the plunger switch on the steering column. Move the brake pedal and follow the movement. An 18 gauge wire will be plenty to power the LED lamp.
There may be several wires connected to the brake light switch. Use a test light and start jabbing wires. Use a parallel or T-Tap to hook another wire on.
TIP! FUSE THE NEW WIRE WITH A 2 AMP INLINE FUSE as running a new wire is going to make your brake ans turn signals much more vulnerable to under the rig shorts. Use an ATO / ATC inline fuse. Two amps is plenty enough to feed five separate 3rd brake lights.
