tire question... HELP!!

Following our latest driving I noticed a chuck out of the tread of one of our Michelin XZA3 275/80 R 22.5 less than two years old. Took some photos to a Michelin Truck Tire Dealer expecting they would love the opportunity to sell me a new tire. Instead, they said not to worry. Since no cords were showing they said it was safe to drive on. Just wondering if anybody out there has had a similar experience.

Hope the links work:

  • I'm not a tire expert so I do not know if that is a problem or not. Rather than taking a picture to the tire shop I might suggest taking the RV to the tire shop so they can physically inspect the tire. Personally, I just don't like the looks of that tire. Of course I start to worry about tires as soon as they start with very small spider cracks on the sidewall.
  • We drove 4000 miles before replacing tires with a gouge out of one. We replaced because of age not tread wear.
  • That doesn't look like a problem.Truck tires have issues like that all the time. Nothing serious as long as it is in the tread and no deeper than the tread.
