If your standard bulbs get as hot as the incandescent bulbs did in my 5th wheel I wouldn't consider putting something like paper that close to them either GPG52! Good call not to take that chance with yours.
I don't find the LEDs I have in my current travel trailer to be anywhere near too hot for paper lining though, so I'll give it a shot on some of them and leave the others full brightness.
Maybe something to consider if you find the LED replacements you buy to still be a little too bright.
