Warranty question for Yamaha generator owners.

I have a EF3000ISEB. I purchased it in March of 2013. Zero issues.

My warranty is up in March 2016.

Just got an email from Yamaha trying to sell me an extended warranty. Option most interested in, is 3 years for $140.

But:

1) Have you purchased and had need to use their EXTENDED warranty? What was your experience?

2) I have found the Ford ESP price varies widely by dealer. Is there any way to reduce the price of the Yamaha warranty by purchasing other than direct from Yamaha?

Now that makes a big difference.

Those little generators hold so little lube oil changing it after say 50-hours of use and before being put away for the season makes perfect sense.

The 3 years does start at the end of the original warranty period (March 2016).

I have a Yamaha generator dealer (and repair shop) within driving range.

Sorry, but I've got a real dumb question...

If a person hasn't hung upside down and kissed the Blarney Stone...

If an extended warranteed generator does the Hokey-Pokey and needs to be fixed, where does the fixing take place? The Yamaha dealer? It's been 4-decades since I purchased my 5500 diesel but the dealer's workshop could have passed for a neighborhood Fixit Shop. A relay went bad and it sat for three weeks. I snagged it and substituted a Bosch relay. Altogether discouraging. But shippers will not allow units that have had fuel in them.

My personal philosophy is to never buy extended warranty for anything I purchase (and I seem to do a lot of purchasing). I'm 48 years old and have only wished I had ex warranty on 2 things, a crappy Chinese $1,500 inverter genny that lasted 52 hours and a $300 lcd TV that pooched in the 2nd year. Everything else is either still running, I got bored of it or I fixed it myself.

If it gives you the peace of mind, I say go for it.

Now just what do you suppose my post was all about ?
Maybe you should first of all, "read", and then get some facts before you talk !

If you are an average person w/ average luck, you will end up on the short end of an extended warranty, bigtime ! Only you know if you are....or will be average.
For myself, I would get an ext warranty only if they gave it to me free.

Well - yeah it *does* matter what the item is...:R

And, what if he's not the average person w/o the average luck?

I agree with the thoughts on *most* extended warranties!

However $140. for 3 years -or- $3.90 per month- is pretty reasonable!

Some may think you're a *chump* for spending the "chump change", but if it makes you feel better - sure doesn't seem like a big deal...;)

My 3000 is starting it's 13th year. I've replaced the battery, spark plug and air cleaner one time each. I change the oil after every use and run all the gas out until it dies. I've never had a problem starting it even when the battery was dead.

The muffler is making a bit more noise than a new one but for $250 plus I'll wait awhile. I'm making a venturi pipe for it now.

Maybe 20 hours total (haven't dry camped as much as we had planned). No issues, no failures.

Companies offer extended warranties because they are very profitable. The vast majority of people will never use them.
