Water heater pop off valve

Anything special about a suburban pop off at twice the price as any other common pop off, assuming same 150psi 210 degree ?
  • Don't know. Never had to change one. Heard too many times that they don't reseat after testing so we don't test.
  • You do not need to buy a Suburban releif valve. Most hardware stores have the 1/2 inch valve with the same specifications.
Verify pipe size! It could be 3/4 inch

  • T&P Relief Valve is a standard 3/4" valve with 4" probe 210*F/150 psi

I fought with a dripping valve for years. Then I quit messing with the valve and now it drips no more.
  • If you have lost the air pocket in your WH the valve will drip because as the water heats up it will expand. It needs the air pocket for expansion.
  • I just did this a few month's ago. Here's what I bought:

The one I removed, which was the original, was the identical Cash-Acme valve.

Small expansion tank works as a permanent solution and no more messing with the T&P valve.
