Water Heater Quit Working on Propane
Recently, while boondocking, our water quit working on propane. We got by for a little while, by using the generator. But....during some “down-time” ( just relaxing), spent some time “troubleshooting “.
The gas solenoid was receiving power and “clicking”, the igniter was “sparking”, we had gas to, but not through, the solenoid.
Figuring the solenoid was bad ( sticking or failed) and couldn’t replace until we got home....I decided that I’d work on it. The worst I could do was break it!
It required special torx bits that I didn’t have, for the disassembly, so....I decided to spray into the gas in and out ports with silicon spray. Initially....no improvement. But...after a few hours, I decided to give it another start attempt....we got ignition.
It’s now worked flawlessly for a week. I’ll replace the gas solenoid valve, and keep the old one as a spare.
Desperate people do desperate things.... and sometimes it works out! ;)
