Water Pump Filter/Strainer

My RV has a Shurflo "classic" water pump and attached to the supply side of the pump is a Shurflo filter/strainer. On a service visit while correcting a water problem the service tech took off the filter/strainer and reinstalled it so that the filter basket containing the screen now sits on the top. He said the filter works better this way. All of the pictures that I have seen of this filter installed and other basket filters have the basket filter screen on the bottom (water flows down into the filter and then back up to the outlet).

I have been wondering if the service tech knew what he was doing when he turned this filter over. Does it matter if the filter screen is on the top or the bottom? Does the filter still function effectively this way?
  • Sounds like the technician is having fun playing a joke on you. The only difference it makes is when the strainer is positioned with the bowl on top you spill more water when removing the bowl to clean the strainer screen.

    Thank you!
  • This is normal to fined plastic and metal shaving in the screen the first time you clean it. After that you should find non.
  • ??????
We've had the new TT for one season now. I pulled the filter for cleaning & found a lot of plastic shaving in it, probably from cutting fitting holes in the tank.

  • Someone needs to esplain' tu me how a filter works better right-side up or upside down?
  • Mine have always been mounted right on the pump inlet.
Main thing is. It needs to catch junk before getting into the pump.
Did they charge for relocating the filter?
