Whats makes the WFCO jump to 14.4?

Wonder if my WFCO is starting to go bonkers. Yesterday it went into 14.4v charging mode. I can hear my fans get louder and then confirm voltage with a small voltage display. No biggie.

Today i heard my fan turn loud. Voltage display showed 14.4 which is not normal since it just ran a 14.4v mode yesterday. Only lasted 10 seconds.

Then again right now it just went to 14.4 again. Been stuck there a few mins. I dont have any batteries hooked up.

Isnt the 14.4 mode a timed dealio? On a schedule?

Really there are Ozzy jokes? Saw him live a couple years ago. I blame sharon. That chick is evil. Ozzy could barely move. I felt sad watching him up there.

Best part of the night was Rob Zombie before ozzy. He yelled at the crowd for being lame having their cell phones out!!! Was hilarious!!! He told them this is a rock show. Put your effn phones away and live life. (not an exact quote)

I can't speak for every WFCO converter. The one I observed worked as follows.
- Converter startup, (AC power applied)
- Converter attempts to supply 13.6 volts at its output.
- At 7 seconds after startup, if output voltage is 13.2 or less, boost mode is entered
- Boost mode continues for 4 hours

The wimpy wiring in most RVs makes it impossible for a low battery to pull the converter output down to 13.2. The converter isn't defective. It's that the converter design and RV design are not compatible.

The only thing that makes a WFCO go to 14.4 is MAGIC!

MY winnie goes over 14 volts daily for an hour or so, then drops back to about 13.7.
This is going by what my renogy mppt is showing me, prior to installing it, I didn't think it was ever going above 14.

My last late model camper had a WFCO. The batteries could be at 12.2v and no bulk charge on shore power.

Fortunately the Zamp kit would completely charge the batteries properly, eventually.

My PD converter chargers in 2 other rigs work properly.

On my PowerMax Boondocker converter/charger, 14.7 volts is "boost" mode...

I've caught my WFCO reading >14 from time to time. Still on first battery that came with a now 5 year old unit. Average about 4 months a year use. On shore power mostly.

What you have there is a Unicorn... A WFCO that actually changes modes... There are quite a few of us that would like to study this rare specimum. It is so rare that most of us thought it could not possibly exist.
