My vent occasionally gets water blocking it. When that happens I put a trigger nozzle on my air compressor and give it a short blast. That clears the water out and I'm back to filling the tank with the water on wide open.
That happens to me too. Water will block the vent and then it will actually form a siphon and start to drain the tank. My dealer's "fix" for this under warranty was to put shutoff valves on both of my vents (to stop the siphon). Pretty dumb "fix".
Hitting it with a couple of blasts from the compressor reverses the siphon and lets the air vent again. What a hassle though. - AtleeExplorer IIThat's what I use to fill my fresh water tanks.

I used an old hose (actually it was new, just sitting around a long time), for a washing machine and cut it in half. Both ends have the female end.
I then attach the 1/2 hose to my fill (garden hose), and simply insert it into the camper fresh water fill. The diameter of the washing machine hose is smaller than the fill hole hose, allowing air to escape around it (and the little vent also). I then never turn the spigot on full blast. I always let it fill slow.
Thanks! I don't have backflow - but the garden hose end can fall out when I'm distracted for a few minutes. - ericosmithExplorerMy vent occasionally gets water blocking it. - JanssExplorer IIWe used to have a 1990 Class C Warrior and had the same problem. Water tank was under the rear corner bed. Vent seemed fine. So we took the mattress off, lifted up the wood under the bed to look at the tank and fill line. The fill line was laid in there and affixed with a kink or bend that was not conducive to free flow. Once we fixed that line, the job of filling water went much better.
- toedtoesExplorer IIII have one garden hose for "clean water" use and one for "dirty" use. The dirty use is for rinsing out the cleanout, etc. The clean use is for the dog's water, filling the fresh water tank and drinking out of.
That's as far as I take it. Oh, I do have a short white hose at the end of the "clean water" hose so the yard guys know the difference. - joebedfordNomad III have a short piece of 1/2" copper pipe that I press agains the vent line and blow hard. This clears the vent line and tank continues to fill normally.
Germs on a garden hose? Good thing I didn't drink gallons from a hose as a kid! - mobeewanExplorerI had a slight dip in the fill and vent tubes. They would fill up and act as a blockage, especially the fill tube. That allowed water to flow back out the fill tube and the tank wouldn't fill. My fill and vent tube is accessible under the sink. I used wire ties to pull the tubes up separately to support them so there is no longer any low spot.
I also made my own filler hose like mike-s uses. Mine is about 24 inches long and will go all the way into the tank. I can fill the tank as fast as the hose will allow. There is plenty of room around the filler hose to allow extra air to escape back through the tanks fill hose. When I hear the tank fill hose start to gurgle I slow the fill rate until the water starts to back flow so it won't bulge the tank. At that point the tank is full and I shut off the hose. - MFLNomad II

If you put the hose in too far, the hose itself could block the air from escaping. Secondly, I have a short piece of hose I use to put tightly against the vent hole and blow into it to remove any water that mlght be lying in there that may be blocking the air from escaping.
Short piece of hose has worked good for me too, over many years, to blow/clear water from the vent line. I also use the Camco fill nozzle, as it is a handy shutoff and lets me fill at good pressure.
