Where are you guys/gals getting your battery cables?

I'm looking to buy a zip cable for my battery charger but crazy exspensive , mainly because they'll only sale 25 ft minumum.
I only need 5 foot of 4 gauge.

Here's what I'm hoping to build for my battery charger.

Everybody gave a lot of good info on where to get battery cables but I'm looking more of where to buy (((((( ZIP CORD ))))))) for a reasonable price ???

Powerwerx is too exspensive for me and I don't necessarily need marine grade just good copper grade in a zip cord form.

Yea , I understand your concerns about the positive and negative running along side one another , it's only going to be used for my battery charger and I'm always present while charging and plus everything is fused well and secured matched appropriately.

I get my cables made at a truck Fleet Supply Store. They can make any size gauge or length then I need. They have a sticking tools to stake the ferrules to the cables and will also put heat shrink tubing on the ends sealing the ends of the cables making them waterproof.

Added four more 6v batteries and a 2000 watt inverter. I made all the cables myself using the correct gauge cable, lug ends and an impact cable crimper.

I like those ferrules, but I find that the #4 set-screw terminals in some cases won't quite take all the strands, which need trimming and twisting real tight. So concern would be if the ferrules actually fit. At least a ferrule would be easier to get the set-screw to hold tight to and not have the wire slip out.

It would not matter for voltage drop if you used a thinner ferrule and got as many strands as possible in that. Be like having a short but thinner pigtail where it is so short it does not make for a high R.

I had to use a strain relief trick with one of my set-ups (photo to be found maybe) because of that and no ferrules, with a 100 amp charger that needed fat gauge wires. (In that case it was a cut off set of #2 cu-al jumper cables. The cu-al was ok as long as you oversize it compared with cu.) With ferrules, I would not have needed that strain relief I think.



In this case, I would just go to the auto store and get two 3 ft long #4s with lugs on them, cut off one end, and use the next size down ferrules to be sure they fit in the set-screw terminals.

exactly. and if they only have black, just use colored heat shrink on the ends for whatever color you want for reference.

Or look at ebay or amazon. Just be aware there is lots of wire out there that is copper clad aluminum!

Lots of good suggestions here. Welding shop for welding cable, Home Depot has it by the foot or on a roll, or soldering my own ends on at home and using heat shrink. Don't over think this.
