Which water filter cartridge?

I bought the Camco Evo single cartridge water filter that uses replaceable cartridges. Camco has two different replacement cartridges that have the same description but are two different numbers and Amazon prices. 40621 for $10.36 & 40624 for $13.97. What are their differences? Couldn't find it with a web search. Both are 5 micron and mention the activated charcoal and such.
Also, AFAIK, these are standard house filter sizes so I could have a multitude of choices. What is your preferred filter cartridge?

Water tastes great. I change every 3 months and we full time.

Activated carbon will remove Chlorine but not Chloramine - which is a popular method by municipalities for cleaning water. For that you need catalytic carbon which filters both.

Most filters are standard size, either 2.5x10 or 4.5x20. Personally I run 2 pre filters - a sacrificial particulate filter and then a catalytic carbon, and then for drinking a 5 stage RO filter with a separate sink tap.

I never need to buy drinking water.

But that's me. It really depends on what you want to filter. I filter everything.

1 micron w/activated carbon is good but I like 1/2 micron w/activated carbon, like what's used on ice/soda machines and they are noticably better as far as water taste. The 10" filters are getting hard to find and they aren't cheap! Craig

I'm glad that I've found this discussion as I need to replace my under sink water filter. Having surfed the Internet and looked through the list of top filters on this site, I decided that Watts Premier is what I should buy. But it is great to find out other people's thoughts and learn from their experience. Thanks for sharing, guys!

The Camco Evo water filter system is a single filter unit. The one in it is the cheaper filter, I'm sure. No markings on the cartridge, checked. Package & instructions say the 21 model is the replacement.
The filter cartridge is a drop in type, similar to the dual filter I have under my home kitchen sink.
This is a free standing filter housing with garden hose threading. You can get a metal mounting bracket, a free standing wire stand you jam into the ground, or an upside down plastic "flower" shape stand. I got the last one because it can be used on stone, concrete or blacktop plus it was half the cost of the wire stand.
So no winter worries as it will be in my home's basement 😉
Got it via WalMart, best price compared to Camping World, Amazon, & Ebay.
I got some hose fittings and will be custom cutting some shorty fresh water hoses to go with the filter.

One time, I thought I had drained all the water out of the lines before a freeze-up, but later, when letting water back in, I found that the filter had cracked and was leaking all over the place!

I don't know if that is the usual thing. Anyway, to be sure, disconnect the filter as part of the routine for that.

I would suggest using a roughing (woven string) filter before my good/expensive one to avoid clogging up the good one.

Flow-Pur has a set of replacement filters that go up in number of threats they protect against. You have to decide on the threat, then choose.

They also have different connections for "quick connect" or "1/2 inch threaded" etc. So you need to know which. ISTR you can make a quick connect into a threaded, but not vv.
