Whirlpool Ice Maker Problems

I have a 2020 Thor Quantum WS31 class C with a Whirlpool commercial refrigerator and ice maker.

I winterized the ice maker by jumping terminals L and V on the ice maker which pumps water out until I saw antifreeze start to flow out.

Now when I attempted to clean out the lines I connected city water and jumped the same terminals filling the ice tray with antifreeze attempting to let it flow until it was running clear. After filling the ice tray about 4 times the unit stopped working and now it does not make ice. It cycles thru the ice making cycle but it is not pumping any water into the ice maker. I fear I burnt out whatever the water mechanism is.

Anybody have any idea what maybe happening?
  • The icemaker just activates a valve on the water supply, often found on the lower rear of the fridge. I must also ask if you have the water on - either city water or the water pump?

Sounds like either the water supply is off or the valve has failed, less likely is a failure of the contacts in the icemaker itself.

The basic icemaker should be easily replaceable and not too expensive online. Usually only a couple of mounting screws and the wiring connector.

    Hope this helps.

  • I don't know how long you worked on it but it takes 10 - 20 hours for the ice maker to get cold enough to cycle (ask for water) and dump ice.

    Thanks for your reply

Yes water is definitely on lol I fill 4 ice trays full of water trying to get a clear flow before it failed.

So if it's the valve that is probably not a good thing it sounds like the fridge will have to be pulled to gain access. Any idea on how I can isolate whether is the valve or the valve switch on the ice maker?

If you manual method no longer works it sure seems likely to be the valve itself, but that’s just a wild guess on my part.
