Winnebago hatch door not opening

I have a 5' x 3' hatch door that's not opening. The locking/unlocking mechanism works. The rod on the right side of the lock lifts up (see 2nd pic) when pulling the handle, but lock holding mechanism located 4" below the handle is not released. Anybody come across this issue?

It looks like the handle has shifted a bit- if you move it up and rotate a bit it might work.

Is it possible that the latch bolt has broken away from the pull rod? Otherwise that should be a solid link

I got it figured out. The rod pulls up but not far enough to release the bottom locking mechanism. When pulling the handle, the handle pulls out a good distance before the rod begins to move up. In other words, there's too much play. There's an adjustment nut at the bottom of the rod. But I can screw the nut all the way to the end and still have too much play before the rod begins to move up. I need to remove the mechanism in the photo and see what's up.

Mines not quite like this. Are you saying that the mechanism works, pulls the rod, etc., but it's not retracting the door latch?

If you have the same latch mechanism on another door, take a look to see how that one works - might help.
