I picked up a second ef2000is generator last week, so I could run my AC if needed out in the boonies.
Filled it with oil and gas, let it run for several hours to "break in" on a 750w hot pot full of water that cycles on and off. Then I set it up with my old one, hooked up the cables, connected my trailer and turned on the AC... with a locked rotor, the AC hesitates a bit on generator versus shore power, but it did start and was blowing cold air for a few hours.
Fast forward a few days, I have the two setup and running my air at a camp site, just till the sun lowered a bit, cool off all that aluminum siding and roof. Everything was fine, choke to start, then choke in, gennys sync and run for hours
Next afternoon, I want to top off the batteries from last night, so choke out, start, warm up for 5-10sec, choke in, the old generator is purring, the new one coughs a bit then starts purring. Soon as my Magnum charger+inverter qualifies the AC and tries to load the generators, the new generator stalls but doesn't die. Magnum switches back to battery mode, and tries again 30 seconds later, new generator dies this time.
So I restart the new generator, and go to slide the choke back in, and it starts running real rough, with no load on it... it wouldn't sync up to its mate. So I pull the choke out a little, and it starts purring. Slowly slide the choke in again, running rough, loses sync with its mate. So I slide the choke back out, maybe 1/4 of the length, and its running fine again... doesn't take but a few seconds to sync with its mate and the two purr along for several minutes.
I plug in the trailer, charger loads the generators, and they run fine for hours, but the new one is a bit smokey, probably from the choke being on?
So whats the deal, did I get a bad apple? Is there something to adjust? I'll call Yamaha after work on Monday if they're still open when I'm off.
