I am replacing my 2022 F350 Platinum with 26000 miles. I can replace it with an identical truck .... 9 months newer and 1/2 the mileage for $4000 difference .... or, for $14,500 (CAD) difference I can pick up a new 2023 high output Platinum that I ordered months ago that has finally come in.

'm not saying the GVW numbers are the most critical parameters known to man.
But only RV.net engineers would go as far as to claim they are fabricated.
As always, the RV.net mantra is "If the parameters don't work for you or comply to your scenario criticize and ignore them as if they never existed."

Yup, all those numbers are fabricated, without a doubt. I'm researching a XLT or Lariat trim, longbed Crewcab, either 7.3 or 6.7.

The payload rating is kind of a fabricated number in my opinion. I think the lower trim levels and or lighter engine options have lower GVWR numbers. I think you can get a little over 4000 lbs payload but not a whole bunch. (Get a lariat to get the 20” wheels but no sun roof for instance) I believe you need the long bed, the 20” wheels and the diesel engine to get the 12400 gvwr.
As an example of why I think the payload numbers are kind of fabricated take a look at my shortbox. It has the same strength frame, the same wheels/tires/brakes and the same suspension as a long box. So it certainly isn’t going to hurt anything for me to load my truck as though I have the same 12400 lb gvwr as the long box. And because the short box is probably about 200 lbs lighter than the long box ….. one could argue the shortbox should be able to carry a couple hundred lbs more than the long bed….. Although even if my shortbox had a 12400 gvwr it still wouldn’t be able to handle as heavy of pin as the long box. (The long box has less weight on its rear axle when empty)

^^^You are correct. I think the diesel F350 crew cab long box with 20” wheels has a gvwr of 12400 lbs. The diesel long box super cab with 20” rims is 12300 lbs. I’m pretty sure all the 4x4 F350 diesels have the same rear springs and axle ….. the longer wheel base puts less weight on the rear suspension which I think is why the give a little greater gvwr to the longer wheel base trucks.

Since you are the expert, am I correct in understanding that there are SRW 350s with a 12,400 GVWR?

Another surprise is that this one has a 3828 lb payload capacity .... not bad for a 4x4 diesel crew cab fully loaded SRW short box (my 2022 only had a rated payload of 3270 lbs. I look forward to towing with it but it's possible the '24 will be in before I get a chance to try this one out. 😉

LOL! You kill me! I think I suggested just getting a '24 to start with. My '24 is in and I pick it up in a couple days.

I hooked it up to the fiver and discovered that the electric over hydraulic setting for the hydraulic disc trailer brakes on the new truck is compatible with my trailer ... my 2022 wasn't, so that's a bonus. This is the first vehicle I've had with HUD ... I like it. Lane centering is not what I hoped for. I think the seat was more comfortable in the old one but maybe I just have to get it adjusted right. The tech is definitely an improvement. The sound system is amazing. I am glad I have my last truck, because the prices today are crazy high. I got 9500 off when I bought my 2015 Ram 3500 4x4 Laramie in Sept 2015. And I got 2K off the 2021 F150 and more than I paid for the 2020 Edge ST we had bought 15 months earlier as a trade in.

Yup...pretty much what I said on first page.

It's all about your personal budget/spendable wealth. If spending an additional 10K is going to cause you to stay home, not afford fuel, or enjoy doing fun things, keep whatcha got.

No one wants to get bent over, but seems a good price being offered on the new truck!
