Same for the naysayers that cannot see the actual progress unfold in front of them.
I have seen progress out of Tesla and even commented on and commended them for it. I still see progress, but my industry and financial experience(along with the many other financial analyst) tells me that the progress is not fast enough for the bills that are coming due. The buzzards are starting to circle, and it will happen whether one wants to believe it or not.
That about explains the state of the coal industry.
I agree to a point. The coal industry is in a slow downward spiral, but increased energy demands from electric cars in places that cannot afford to build new plants along with lower oil demand may keep it going a bit longer than some analyst think. Last I checked, there are still about 400 coal power plants in the US and about 30% our energy comes from coal.
Natural gas power plants have increased rapidly over the past decade as the number one power source over coal to about 35% today, but that is mainly due to fracking technology in the oil industry making it worth extracting. Without that, coal would still be the number one energy source for the US. If you decrease oil consumption by increasing electric vehicles, it might have an adverse effect of increasing the power coming from coal since it will make it it cheaper than natural gas.
