Did I just see you camping at Brown County State Park in Indiana last weekend? I see you're in Kentucky and I swear I saw the same setup camped near us.

I wish!
However we will be in/around Nashville tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚

OK, well then you have a twin. The truck camper looked very similar and it was definitely a Silverado of the same era. They were what I call "an older couple," but I didn't want to say that in my original post. ๐Ÿ˜‰

No problem WMoses. I think GM started offering the 6-sp for 2009 in the half tons and 2007.5 for HD.

Thanks. You learn something new every day. FWIW, I would not want to tow with anything less than a 6 speed.

Good grocery getter, lousy for towing much more than a family and a tent trailer.

I've used a very similar (2006 Z-71 5.3, same gears) truck to tow my 5000 lbs travel trailer. Flat land fine, NC mountains, will do, but I feel much better when towing with my 3/4 ton, with the 1500 I grip the wheel much tighter and you always know it's there. So, If that is your tow vehicle, I would get some thing light, in the 4000# range.

I'm going to try dropping it in 3rd the next time we hit the hills and see what she does but I'll also have to keep an eye on the transmission temp when doing so. I'm looking at upgrading to a 3/4 or 1 ton this spring...it seems we pack more and more every trip and I'm sure we are going to exceed payload (if we haven't already).

I would recommend you tow in 3rd all the time with that truck, it will actually lower trans temp. When I try towing in D the temps raise up quickly, the higher your rpm the faster the fluid exchange in the trans.

A 2010 6-spd is not similar to a 2007 4-spd when it comes to towing an RV. But 5k dry should be fine.

Of course they are not the same.

My mistake was assuming that since the body style changed in 2007 the transmissions on the 5.3 also changed. Based on your post, that is not the case as I see from the Edmunds site that only 4-speeds were offered.

I stand corrected.

My truck is similar - see the details in my signature block. The UVW (useless number but you asked) is 6311# and the GVWR is about 7750#. Tows well. I get around 10 mpg towing 7200# at 60 mph and have got as high as 23 mpg on the highway at 65 mph.
