15k AC Question

Can't help with the trailer review...but a 15K A/C will work great with 30a service. ..you probably won't be able to run the air, the mircowave and a hair dryer all at the same time...

We upgraded from 13.5 to 15 when we bought our mh and everything works fine on 30.

We swapped out our 13.5 for a 15 shortly after we purchased our current camper. Ours is 30 amp and as long as we don't run all these at the same time, we don't have any problem.

Electric water heater
Air Conditioner
Microwave.

So, we run the water heater on gas all the time, and we've never had a problem running the air conditioner and microwave at the same time. But if we flip on electric on the water heater, and the water heater kicks on, it almost always pops the main breaker in the camper.

Same with an electric frying pan or an electric griddle. If Air and microwave are running, and we plug in one of these, it almost always pops. Considering we cook outside all the time, I usually run a separate normal 20 amp cord from the power post to the picnic table and never plug into the outlet on the side of the camper.

Not that big a difference. A 15K will run just as easily off a 30A supply as the smaller AC.

Our 15k pulls 13 amps. OP will be happy to have 15k in 90 degree weather.

A 13500 may reliably run from a 15 amp shore power supply.

A 15000 may NOT do the same.

It amounts to an 11% increase in capacity. Most folks won't notice a difference.

If a 13500 takes one hour to cool an RV down, the 15000 would take 54 minutes.

The new 15K in our trailer is drawing the same current the 13.5 did in out 13 y/o trailer - 12 amps. Any 15A outlet that is burdened with other things should be able to run it just fine.
Given the option, I would always get the 15K.

50 amp service is needed only if you have 2 A/C's. A single 13.5 or 15 works equally well with 30 amp service.

If you have a choice, get the 15K BTU A/C. That was an option for my Jay Flight 23RB. If I had ordered mine, I would have gotten the 15k unit. But it's rare (except for maybe Texas/AZ/FL, for example) that a dealer will order a TT with a 15k unit to put on his lot for sale.

X2^^. We have both a 15K (main living area) and 13.5K (bedroom) in our rig. When we're at a campground with only 30 amp service we have no problems running the 15K - even with water heater and frig on electric... usually. Some parks have stronger electrical systems than others. We have had instances, though, where my wife will forget and run the microwave or her hair dryer while the 15K AC is running and the breaker at the pedestal will trip. We don't try to use both ACs under these circumstances and only stay places with 50 amp electric (which is really 100 amp service with two 50 amp legs) during the summer in the south and southwest.

I run a 15K on a 15A circuit all the time BUT not much else. Have to wait for the battery charger to do it's thing (30-45 minutes) before starting the AC if unit has been sitting for awhile.
