2000 silverado cargo carrying capacity

My last truck, which I sold about a year ago, was a 2000 Silverado LS extended cab, 6.5' bed with 4th door, 2WD with 5.3L V8 and tow package. Does anyone know the cargo carrying capacity and tow capacity for that truck? I'd like to compare it to my current truck. Thanks.
  • Ok so my old 2000 1/2 5.3 with 3:42 gears and ext cab pulled around 7 k of small fifth wheel fine. I mean the pin was around 1000lbs and it never pointed the lights into the sky or anything. It had 285 hp and I think 325 tq. It loved to rev to 4 K on any hill while pulling that load. The was one time we ended up in a bad 2 lane mountain road and I had it floored I mean pushed down as hard as possible just to keep 20 mph. But again it was a really steep twisting road so nobody was going fast...otherwise I had no issues towing anywhere. Btw that mountain road was not meant for any campers... Our map was incorrect so it was very exciting..... Anyway so the truck had no issues when I sold it to my best friend with about 160k on the clock. Good truck got 22 hwy empty and 16-18 city empty. Read my previous post to find payload. Pulling 7k was easy in Florida and not an issue on the interstate through Georgia while pulling.
  • CC is going to vary by the truck's "as delivered" configuration and option list. The only way to get all that info is from the RPO codes in the glove box. Not sure if they had a CC sticker in the door on that one, I don't believe it was mandated back then.

Unless you luck out and someone here has a close to the same truck?
  • Per page 4-58 of the 2000 Silverado owner's manual, tow capacity for the 2WD 5.3L V8 would be 7000lbs with a 3.42 axle ratio, or 8200lbs with a 3.73 ratio.
  • I had one simular a few years back. GVWR was 6200, I believe the truck weighed in around 4700 lbs or more if I can recall. So u need to have ur truck weighed to find the true payload. Then subtract that number from the GVWR and bingo the payload amount may surprise you.
