when I drive down the road and let go of the steering wheel the truck will start to pull slightly to the right, even harder when in 4X4 mode. thought I had a bad caliper but everything seems to be ok with them, any ideas on what may be causing this, Thanks

A bad u-joint can be felt if you have the hubs locked and crank the wheel hard in one direction or the other. With one or both sides in the air, spin the tire, if its a bad u-joint it will stop the tire from spinning and resist you. I have one that seems to having intermittent problems as you described. Randomly (very random) the truck will pull to the right and not easily return to center. I have not had the time and weather to verify if its going bad, but I pumped it full of fresh grease and even though I did so 3 months ago I still got 6 pumps into the joint before there where signs it was full.

So today I took it out again and noticed when I turn to the right I have a knocking sound in the front end, so im guessing a ball joint or a tie rod, any thoughts.
anyone have an idea of how to check to know if it is a ball joint or a U joint?

You can check the ball joint. Jack up that corner then with a pry bar located beneath the tire, leverage the tire/wheel up and down to see if there is any play.

Some of the F250s had issues with the front breaks hanging a little. The pins needed cleaning in order for them to release fully.

Geez, some of these guys should become comedians....NOT! Too much time on their hands I guess.

When my truck had badly worn ball joints, I had a clunking in the front end when turning and the steering would occasionally stick when backing in my trailer so I would strongly suspect that is your issue. I suspect that the responses of front axle joint forget that a Ford does not have any moving drivetrain parts in the front end when in 2wd (as long as everything is working correctly) unlike a Dodge. Please let us know what you find out.

Is there a repair shop on the side of the road?

Most roads are crowned to allow drainage. It may be due to this if the pull is slight.

Most likely truck needs an alignment ... Ford trucks are also pretty sensitive to road crown ... I find that when the alignment is perfect the steering wheel will always be a touch off-center to the left when riding the right lane. Switch to the left lane and the steering wheel will switch the other way. Unless the truck has a very noticeable drift/pull that causes it to wander in the lane or if you are getting excessive front tire wear I wouldn't bother with an alignment until you put new tires on the truck.

Agree with the first 4 replies. Also, maybe you have brake pad that is rubbing. When you step on the brake peddle, does it pull harder then?
