2005 GMC 2500HD overheating

Is the truck around farms much, ie: hay fields and such? The radiator could be partially stopped up or you could have one or both of the t-stats stuck open. It's hard to say, but you guys have had some hot azz weather there lately. 210* really ain't bad for what you are going through just don't let it go much more.

We bought the truck used early this spring. Heck only knows what it's been through. I'll be taking it in for a flush and t-stat checks in the am. Someone on another forum mentioned the AC condenser could be dirty. That's one I have no idea about. Could that do it? Shutting off the AC wasn't an option. It was 103 at 5 pm.

Right now, the 5th wheel's in the park. No traveling for a while, so it's time to get this all straightened out.

It's not unusual and many guys on this board use his products with the 2005 DMAX engine.
I assume your in S Idaho which was like 110* today. A 8 year old truck will run hot in those temps though. I won't link the funny video on Youtube cause it gets panties in a bunch in the bowtie camp :W

Seems normal to me.

It was running 180 on the engine and 160 on the tranny two weeks ago. Of course, it was 75 degrees two weeks ago. I know outdoor temps have something to do with it. I'm sure the AC does as well. So...a flush for sure, and we'll go from there, I guess.

Check your water pump. According to our local garage, the 2005 is known for the pump going bad. Been there done that with our 2005 GMC.

She has the 6.0 gas, not the Duramax. Other than the warm transmission temps, the engine temp seems fine for the weather you are in. I wouldn't waste money at a mechanic's shop and just go to the local car wash and give the front end a good cleaning.

Nothing wrong with those temps. I wouldn't do anything to it other than make sure the radiator fins are clear, visual checks on the belt. Compressed air on the various radiators and coolers, from the engine side to out the front. Don't use water if the parts are hot !!!!!

X2 on this. First things first. Clean all the radiators/coolers in the front end at a car wash. With that old a vehicle and no idea what maintence/care and your symptoms I suspect your coolers/radiators are extremely dirty/clogged not allowing proper air flow.

If washing/rinsing doesn't work then have a mechanic flush and refill radiator fluid and change T-Stat.
