2006 F-250 Viberation????

Possibly tire out of round or u-joint going bad?

Four wheel drive or two wheel drive? Any weird sounds or "feel" when turning real sharp in one direction or the other? You can't tell by "looks" when the ball joints go bad, but you can hear them, especially someone outside the truck, and when you hit big bumps at speed.

That speed says tires to me, try rotating front to rear and see if things change. If they were balanced properly, you might want to just replace them.

Maybe it is a rear tire. I believe all tires should be checked for balance in this situation.

OP, how fast is the vibration? Like a buzzing vibration or slower and heavy? Also is it speed dependent, as in , does it change with speed or what gear your in? Can you hear any noises? Have you taken the vehicle off road recently? My work truck gets mud inside the rims constantly and I have to remove the tires to clean it out. If it's a very fast almost buzzy feeling it's probably a U joint, a slower heavier vibration is usually a tire out of balance, or mud packed inside the rim.

I have rotated tires front to rear and side to side with no change.. This is a 4WD drive vehicle but hasn't been off road while I have had it.. Rims are clean on inside.. Since I am planning on a trip soon, and I have a service contract on vehicle, I took it to a local dealer today for assessment.. Findings: Ball joints are good.. U-joint seems fine..front wheel bearings feel ok.. but after a drive on the freeway, the shop service person did acknowledge the buzzing vibration at 45-60 mph on freeway..they suspect failing front wheel bearing but vibration analysis will hopefully locate the location / source of problem on Thursday.. thanks to all who have responded with excellent ideas.. I will update as soon as problem is fixed in case anyone else has this issue..

The 4WD question was probably more to do with having a transfer case and front driveline as possible sources of the issue than mud in the rims.

Update of vibration problem: Took F-250 to local Ford Service Center. Technician took a computer vibration analysis road trip and determined (1) the left front wheel bearings were bad (Hub) and required replacement and (2) both upper/lower left and right front wheel ball joints were going bad and required replacement. Work was completed and I immediately departed with truck on a vacation trip.. The exact same problem they claimed they fixed still exists.. rumbling vibration that starts at 40 mph and stops at 55 mph. I took it back and they now claim it is road noise but it happens all all road surfaces.. super smooth or rough.. Happens when coasting down hill with no acceleration or power being applied. I now have another appointment next week with same dealer for them to re-look at the problem. After having spent $1800 (service contract insurance) with them on this vibration issue without them correctly identifying and fixing the problem is disturbing! Will follow up as plot thickens..

If you spent $1,800 on a problem that was not fixed you need to get off of this forum and have a SERIOUS chat with the service advisor or better yet the dealership owner. If they didn't fix your problem tell them you want your money back.

I still think it is a dry u-joint. But I've been wrong before.:W
