2007-2013 suburban 2500 owners. .... little help please

So l, I just did a little lift on our truck and got my numbers mixed up.

Can somebody with one that is at stock height PLEASE measure from the top of the fender opening to the center of the wheel hub. Should be about 21", but I need to be sure.

I am adjusting the torsion bars now and I think I got it right, but want to be sure.

Thanks.
  • PDX, I almost went 285's but was afraid of sacrificing the power....my TT is about 9k lbs loaded, and I have the old fashioned 4 speed tranny....

Look at aftermarket wheels when you go to new tires. I have the American Racing AR-23 rims, and they have the same offset as the factory wheels (I think it's zero if I recall). Going from 16x6.5 to 16x8, the inside of the tire stays in the same position and the additional 1.5" of rim width is entirely outboard. So no suspension clearance issues, and the extra width makes the truck more stable, and looks better with the wheel wells filled up.

You should be able to get 285's on the front with a couple cranks on the torsion bars.

Are you doing a build thread on a truck site? I wanna follow the supercharger install!!
  • Thanks so much BMan. I was hoping you would swing by.

Totally understand the tradeoff here. Even with factory 3.73s, we are good. The six speed has a really deep first, and it downshifts on the highway anyway. I also have a not so secret plan to drop in a supercharger this winter which should alleviate any power concerns.

The big issue, even with a little lift, is tire clearance. The wheelwells are so narrow. I am going with a Buckstop bumper to fix the front well clearance. The rear of the wheelwell may need some trimming.
Back tires are fine for clearance. I really want to go with 285/65-18s. Which is 32.5.

Will post pics when I am more done. Right now it's just a lifted whale on little tires.

    Stay tuned....
  • Need some pics!

If you're towing heavy, be cautious about too big of a tire...increasing the outside diameter of the tire has the effect of reducing (numerically) your rear axle ratio and affecting your tow capabilities. Stock tires on my '01 were 245/75-26 on 16x6.5" GM rims, I went to 265/75-16 on 16x8 rims. The increased diameter of the 265's effectively reduces my rear axle ratio from a 4.10 to a 3.94.

So for me it was a compromise, I wanted bigger tires for beach driving but didn't want to kill my towing power on those long interstate grades either. I;m not saying don't put bigger tires on, just that you should be aware of how it will affect towing.

    Here's the formula.
  • Thank you so much.

For all the drama that we sometimes see here, it is super nice to just see people helping people.

So you all know what I was up to, I tossed some 1" blocks in the rear, and came up 1.25" in the front. This actually doesn't buy a much larger tire though.

Stock is about. 31.5". 32" is very possible. 32.5" will definitely hit. 32.5" for me translates to 275/65LT18.

The Suburbans have different bodywork than the trucks. The body sits lower on the frame and the wheelwells are smaller.
  • I measure 22 inches in the front and 23 3/4 inches in the back on my 2011 Chevrolet Suburban.
