Any body towing with a 2012 Frontier 4x4 auto?
If so what.
Thanks, just wondering.

Towed a Jayco X17C HTT (3500# GVWR) with a 2012 2WD Fronter Crew Cab. Was a pretty good tow vehicle. 6500# capaoty and 630# tongue weight rating. Payload on my truck decent at about 1250#. Traded for a Titan 4WD. The Titan handles the HTT better but my MPGs on the Frontier were better towing! It struggled on hills but could maintain 55 MPH if I let the RPMs go. Wouldn't want to go much heavier than 4500# or so. Kinda miss the Frontier sometimes....better MPG and tighter turning radius than the Titan.

the engine of the Frontier makes a big difference. The 3.3 liter V6 was quite awhile ago and not too powerful. The 4 liter V6 that the Frontier has been using for a number of years now has the most torque of any mid sized pickup...281 lbs. ft. and the HP at 261 ain't too shabby either.

Mine was 284-265. 4.0. Felt great with no load. Didn't take much to feel sluggish.

I towed a 4050 lb 22' OAL 7'wide, 9'9" high TT with an 06 Frontier 2wd V6 AT. Hated every minute of it. Gutless and 8.5 mpg. Like Captain Happy's doing I'd look for a more aero style lighter than 4050 lb TT.
I've seen guys towing larger TT's than I did with Frontiers, but I've also seen guys riding motorcycles on a 55* sunny day with shorts and a T shirt on.

I wouldn't have a problem towing the size rig with a Frontier as long as it's rated to tow that kind of weight. I got a 2017 Tacoma with a 3.5 liter V-6, rated to tow 6,500 lbs. I tow a 17 foot Casita out here in the western states where there's big hills. Does fine of the flats but you'll notice it in the steep hills. Just gear down and take your time, you'll get there.

Not a Frontier, but a somewhat similar, and a few years older Xterra 3.3 automatic, and I consider it barely adequate for my 17 foot hybrid which weighs about 2,800 pounds loaded. Your newer Frontier should be more powerful and probably longer wheelbase.
