2013 Expedition EL Limited

Hi I use to have a travel trailer and a class A. Two years ago I went through a divorce and I became disable(Neuropathy). This caused me to get depress and I sold my excursion and Rockwood 2601S. I have 3 kids and we enjoyed camping. Now my spirits is up and want to continue to enjoy life and get back into RVing. I brought this 2013 Expedition EL with the tow package.
I am looking at this 2018 Jayco White Hawk 24MBH unloaded weight 5625 lbs GVWR 7350.The Expedition EL has a max tow rating 8900 lb tongue weight 1335 lb.Cargo & occupants 1478 lbs.GVWR 15000 lb. The trailer is 29.2feet. Can the Expedition handle this trailer? Thanks for your replies.

This is great to hear! I’m glad your spirits are up and you are ready to get back to living life!

    The rig should do great!

Be careful of your load with the kiddos and friends but it should be a good combo!

Just a note on the 3V 5.4....Please please please keep the oil changed with the correct oil (Motocraft semi synthetic is cheap) and use Motorcraft only filters on that 5.4 3V. Save those cam phasers!!

    Have fun!

Very sound advice, the two things that will kill the 5.4 the oil issue you mentioned and not changing the antifreeze. If the additives in the antifreeze are depleted it allows the engine to become a battery with the dissimilar metals and corrode.

It sounds like you addressed both.
  • No, Jerem, the EL is 890 pounds. Your guess is wrong. See https://www.ford.com/resources/ford/general/pdf/towingguides/13flrv&tt_expedition_oct9.pdf

OP wants to load 1335...445 pounds over. Not a good choice.

Thanks for the reply.....it has 96000 miles good maintenance records ....I have had the dealer change the plugs and coolant. They change oil every 5000.
I am looking to buy a Hensley or Pro-Pride.

Great Choice! Watch your tongue weight as the receiver is only rated for 900 or 1,000 lbs or something like that. Manage that and you should do well.

    Thanks!

  • Guess my question (Expedition’s max tongue weight) goes unanswered. Seems as though it relates to OP’s inquiry.

So I looked it up...890 pounds for the EL. You are WAY over. See https://www.ford.com/resources/ford/general/pdf/towingguides/13flrv&tt_expedition_oct9.pdf

  • "tongue weight 1335 lb"

What is the Expedition's max tongue weight...with WDH and without?

  • Probably a good combo combination overall. 6500 pounds loaded, 800-900 pounds of TW, 500 pounds left for people and cargo. The Expy will probably be over GVWR, but with a well adjusted WDH should tow well.
