Well,I have a 2003 HD 2500/6.0 sitting in the driveway along side my 2008 Ford F-150 Super crew and have pulled my trailer which is around 8k and a wood trailer that runs right at 10k(mobile home frame) with both and I can tell you my son or myself can't see much of a difference between the two in any way towing other than the Ford has a better power band for the hills.

We also pull the other two,22 and 24 ft travel trailers with both rigs without bars or sway control with out seeing any difference to speak of.

Now if I was going to put a cab over camper on, the 2500 would get the nod but not towing so far.

Just sold a 3/4 ton '76 Ford with a 8.5 Lance on it that didn't even come close to towing as well as the Supercrew, power or handling. So no, in my experience the 3/4 ton does not always tow better.

A 3/4 ton does not always tow better, especially in the hills where horsepower counts.

3/4 ton does tow better. It just may not accelerate as quickly.

I see a new truck thread soon! 8500 pounds loaded with 1000-1100 pounds of TW is too much for every 2009+ Ram quad cab/crew cab pickup I have seen. Lots of power, the lowest payload in the class.

Does anyone ever notice all the 3/4 tons that are overloaded pulling those huge fifth wheels?

You're right, it happens all the time, but that doesn't make it right.

I have the same payload as I think he does and would not hesitate to tow a 8000 lb trailer..... To many people over think towing.

If he had a 3/4 ton know one would have said a thing even if it was an older one with only a 7200 GVWR because it is rated and tagged a 3/4 ton.

The 5.7 hemi can have 390 HP more than the 2500 HD 6.0 in early 2000 models and if his tow capacity is 9250 he is well within his towing limits. His 5.7 hemi will pull better than the 6.0 2500 HD, power wise with only 300 horses.

Power is only one part of the equation. Yes it has plenty of power, it could easily move 20,000lbs. The problem is the trucks payload, suspension, axles, tires etc. Depending on the cab configuration the Ram can have payloads as low as 1,000lbs! The tongue weight of that TT will exceed that on its own before any passengers even got in the truck. This is the problem with most 1/2 ton trucks, my own included.

No doubt it will pull it. My 5.4 I had would too. It's the payload and length that would be a concern.

TT looks nice but @8000+lbs loaded and almost 36' long it will be a load for your Ram 1500.
That TT is in 3/4 ton territory.

Avenger is made by Prime Time manufacturing, which gets financial assistance from Forest River. We are very happy with our Lacrosse (same manufacturer). You could probably ask your question on the Forest River Forums Prime Time section and get reviews from those that have the Avenger.
