2014 Ram back up camera

The 2014 Ram back up cameras are built in to the tailgate handle. Which doesn't help at all if you are removing the tailgate for your camper.

A quick look around on the Net did not reveal an aftermarket plug and play camera that will simply plug in to the existing Ram system, that can bolt elsewhere on the rear of truck when the camper would be in the bed.

What have you guys found? (Besides installing an entire new back up camera system).

Cheers

I did phone the dealer and the parts department said that Ram does not make any parts like I'm asking for but looking at Bedlam's posting, they maybe incorrect. Perhaps a solution after all. Will look further in to this option. Cheers!

Ram has cables and cameras for the chassis cab models that will work for you. I did not research aftermarket offerings.

You can always order the original camera from dealer and fabricate a housing and install where you want? That may be an alternative?

From all my reading, the cargo camera uses a different screen than the tail gate camera and both can be on at the same time. So wiring harness to the computer is a different path.

Ram does make a camera that goes in the rear bed light. I believe the feed is tied to the tailgate camera...

I'll see if i can find the mod for it

I looked into this before I ordered my truck but decided to go without or after market since I wanted to be able to have it on at my discretion, especially while driving down the interstate.

If I had gone with the factory radio, I decided I would go with a factory replacement camera and build a custom mount to hold the camera on the back of the camper. Then it would just be another connection to make after loading the camper. The truck would never know.

I think the camera and harness was very reasonable at $200 or so. Available on ebay. Believe this one should work but not sure.

Did you ask the Ram dealer? It seems like removing the tailgate is a common enough event where they may have something they can install. If not, shame on them.

I've got the same problem, and unfortunately, no solution yet.

I did find an aftermarket camera w/30 feet of cord (unsure of exact length, but that sounds right) that would have plugged right into my previous vehicle (2011 Ford F350). Made for those like plow trucks, sand spreaders, which explains the extra length of cord.

What I don't know is if the plug on my Ram is the same as the plug on my previous Ford.

I'd surely furnish a link, but appears I have lost it.
