Back to the original questions about fuel economy. I meant to say that while towing, I usually keep the speed between 60-65 mph. Even though I have tires rated for higher speeds, once you get the tach above 1,500 rpm, it really starts to guzzle the gas. Plus I find that at slower highway speeds, I have more opportunity to look around and see what's out there. But that's just me.

PS: I just finish fixing my bad links in my earlier post. Now you can see an easy way to verify the axles and hear a Ford engineer confirming it. Sorry about the bad links earlier.

Yes, Ford hasn't corrected the misprint in years. I've gone through this with a few people on the net over the years. They always come around when they verify the part numbers.

As to the blocks, Ford just started putting 4" on some 250s in the last year or so. No, not all 250s come with them even now, but they can be added and they do not increase load capacity. The overloads that come with the camper package on the 250 do that.

As to why the 250 is the same, Bedlam covered that. It's just to fill a different market segment. The 250s ratings are fabricated. Plain and simple...

1jeep - You have more truck than Ford is letting on. The 250 class truck exists so it can fall under 10K lb restrictions but it is cheaper to use the same 350 components than sourcing different parts between the two. taken has done similar research to me and come up with the same answers even though we have never met and are on opposite coasts.

I do and typically use what the manufactures post, this is what bothers me most if you are correct then ford has been posting false info for years.

Do your own homework. I already provided you the facts. The rating on a 250 is nonsense it's the same truck as shown by the part numbers. This is pretty common knowledge in he ford community.

SO are you saying that the 250/350 fx4 have 4" blocks under the rear spring pack?

Sorry im still not believing the rear axles on the 250/350 are the same, every where i look it shows a shaft difference no mater what year. Lets say you are correct how could ford rate the 350srw to carry an extra 1000lbs that the 250 cant? don't tell me the rear diff cover. I am talking axle rating not spring rating.

BTW my 250 has the FX4 pkg and there are no 4" blocks in that spring pack.

2011 and up we are talking. IE the current gen trucks. 2012 and up SRW are vacuum. Period. As to axles...

The axles are identical as is every other part between the 250 and SRW 350. The 250 is de-rated from the factory as are it's axles. The two small differences generally sited between the two, the 4" vs. 2" block and overload spring, can actually be ordered on the 250. The 4" block now (in the last year or so) comes with the FX4 and plow prep and the overload comes with the camper pkg. So, a 250 can be ordered with every part identical to the 350 SRW. Here are the part numbers for a 2012 F250 vs. F350. I chose 2012 but the results are the same if you search any year of the current generation from 11-15.

Here is a link to the question being asked directly to a Ford engineer when they were on the FTE forums answering questions about the 2015 motor update. They were only there to answer questions about 2015 so the MY is mentioned but is irrelevant as they are all the same. Link to Ford engineer confirming that the two axles are the same.

really so my 2008 f350 srw wasn't hydro....wow now i am very confused about things i owned, maybe it wasn't diesel either.

BTW the pdf i posted was for 2012 and shows 350 srw being hydro....maybe im not following what your trying to tell me.

Right. All srw trucks are vacuum. In 2011 the srw 350's were hydro but only for one year.
