Sadly we will be unable to attend Expo West. But we will be headed to N. Carolina in October for Expo East. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

Camping in the lake bed does suck. We were given the opportunity to camp in the alternate camping area located next the motorcycle area, we jumped on it. Much closer and dryer after the rains earlier in the week.

I agree, the event was a lot of fun. I'll be writing a report on the top rigs soon.

I will be attending in the future but on other camp grounds.
The winds were ridiculous.
I saw a heavy duty tent being blown away a good 100ft before they caught up to it.

Excellent event for those into the Overland experience.

What he said, winds wreaked havoc all day Friday while we we're there. Good event, enjoyed the Range Rover and BF Goodrich demos on the 4x4 obstacle course. KTM had a strong showing with their factory truck/trailer and demo rides ( street only ๐Ÿ˜ž ), but BMW was noticeably absent with no factory display. I figured they'd be there as many folks consider their bikes to be "The" adventure bike to have. Unimogs we're beasts and if you are shopping rooftop tent setups, this is your show.

I have been planning on htis trip for a long time, I would suggest with those who are plan to dry camp not totaly write off not coming down. If the camp grounds do not open there will be MANY people, (even those with reservations) dry camping in any available areas( I plan on sleeping in my truck). I am hopeful the area will support the overflow and from the instagram and weather forecast it looks like it should be good.

Possibly a bit muddy but still good

Just read on the Overland website today that their "no reservation needed" campground is now "soldout". All reservable campgrounds I can find within about 20 miles are booked which puts us driving 700+ miles in hopes we can find some dispersed camping somewhere else. Better be a good event.......

Clicky

Mormon Lake sits in the heart of the Coconino National Forest. Lot's of dispersed camping nearby. Ashurst Lake is one place fairly closeby.

On their site they have an interactive map, it seems they have showers and a few food truck vendors. Should be interesting

What about bathrooms?

You better plan on being totally self sufficient. The vendors are a long way from the campground. Also show up with full fresh water and empty holding tanks. I showed up low on water but heard ahead of time water was available. Yeah, it was. I think gas was cheaper!!! I went without.

I'm glad I went but once was enough for me.

If anyone with a pre-purchased Weekend pass with Camping for this weekend at Overland West is not going to be able to attend, I'd be interested in chatting with you. PM for details.
Thanks.

Update: Please disregard above request, Overland Expo just advised me against this as they will not know if their onsite camping will be available until Thursday due to the weather.

I plan on car camping anyways, I believe the closest motel/hotels were about 40 miles away (besides the motel next to it).

SPECIAL CAMPING ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THIS WEEKEND!

Hello!

You are receiving this email because you have already purchased a Weekend Pass with Camping. We are currently on site setting up and really looking forward to a great event this weekend!

While the weather forecast for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday predicts beautiful days of sunshine, there is rain forecast during the week. This may make the usual campground muddy and inaccessible on Thursday check-in. As a result we are making some changes to the camping area.

We have opened an alternate camp area, which you will be directed to when you check-in. There will be space for tent and vehicle camping in this new area.

We anticipate opening up the main campground on Friday, as long as the ground dries out and the road is accessible.

To help us manage an overload of communications, please do not email us asking about updates. For the latest show updates, check: www.overlandexpo.com/app

Thanks in advance for your attention and working with us about this matter!
