Remember you have a crew cab. My 2500 with a rev cab and SB8 has 3800 lbs of payload. Granted a really base stripped model.....
If folks did not ask for floor blown leather etc interiors, one would have more payload....
My 96 SW K3500 had just shy of 3000 with a nice mid trim cloth interior, 6.5TD and long bed. My tare was 6500 lbs or so. Today's rigs are at minimum 1000 lbs heavier. I can't find a base rev cab 2500 that weighs less than 5800 lbs. Mine is 4800 lbs. We have more GVW, but worst payload!

In my opinion offering a 3/4 ton HD diesel is just plain stupid. By the time you load a small family and a hitch in the bed of a diesel 3/4 ton you haven't got enough payload left to pull more than a tent trailer.

really???? on my GMC Denali 3/4ton duramax crew cab 4x4 I can put two motorcycles in the back along with firewood camping gear and 3 adults along with the tongue weight of a 9,000lb trailer (1450lbs) and going over the scales I'm still under 10K lbs. Even my denali, with all the extra's has 2600lbs cargo capacity

Now had a 1 ton short bed SRW crew cab been available I would have bought it, but virtually all the 1 ton SRW in 4 states were long box.

Exactly. So why does the dealer even bother ordering in 3/4 tons? Apparently the Ford is even heavier than the GM. My F350 only has a 3300 lb payload rating with a 11500 GVWR. So a F250 equipped like mine but with only 10,000 lb GVWR would only have a payload of 1800 lbs. Take off 1200 lbs for hitch, family, fuel and a little bit of miscellaneous and you haven't got much left for tongue weight. When it come to towing a fifth wheel it doesn't take much to eat up 3300 lbs let alone 1800. These SRW diesel trucks are designed to tow 18000 lbs .... you need carrying capacity (heavy springs) to make use of that potential. 3/4 diesels should not be offered.

And for the weight po-po...I towed a 42ft toyhauler just fine with a 3000lb pin weight on a 2500.

Sure you did, however you were most likely over the 6500 RGAWR of the 2500.

A 3k pin weight should not put a Ram 2500 diesel with a rear GAWR of 6500 over its rating. Even though the truck is almost 8k, a little less than 3k is in the rear so adding another 3k would give you a little over 500 to spare. Of course adding passengers would take away from that 500, but a lot of that weight will go towards the front axles that is rated at 6k GAWR on the diesels.

I am at 3760 on rear axle ready to tow. That is Demco 6099 picture frame and B&W manual slider(270 lbs), no tail gate, V-Box in back of bed with two sets of golf clubs, front box full of tools, Honda EU2000i, 6 gals of diesel, two gallons of gas. Stuff just adds up.

My pin weight is around 3K which is light for a 16K 39'4" 5er. Dry weight on this model in 2435 which 18+% of dry weight.

Removing the overload spring from a 1ton single rear wheel heavy duty diesel to market a 3/4 ton for those who don't need that overload spring would be like Chevy Impala removing the back seat of their sedan to market a two seater 4 door for those who don't need a back seat. It is foolishness.

Haven't seen that expression used on this forum before, but is descriptive of many forum threads.

BTW...don't watch the video!

Nothing wrong with it as long as you're not the pivot man.
Too many geezers, self appointed moderators, experts, and disappearing posts for me. Enjoy. How many times can the same thing be rehashed over and over?

That is what Dodge/Ram did from 1994 to 2002 there wasnโ€™t a SRW 3500, only DRW 3500โ€™s.
You could get a 2500 with camper package, and you got 3500 springs, add optional 265/75-16 E tires and you could easily carry 11,000#.

It would make sense to have 2500 and 3500 series trucks but the 3500 should have duals and the 2500 should be SRW.

It's this idea of thinking it is reasonable to build a HD diesel SRW truck designed for towing 18000 lbs and then remove some of its leaf springs to reduce its payload to less than that of a 1/2 ton to satisfy a particular segment of buyers that haven't a clue.

Saw a long box 2500 RAM at Camping World in Burlington, Wa this afternoon. It had new camper tie downs sticking our at the bottom of the four corners of the box. On close inspection it had coils and new air bags added on the rear axle.

For you GVWR cops, you should have been there to give him a ticket when they loaded his new camper!!!

Oh, I mean a 350/3500, and maybe a duallie!!!
