30 and 50 amp

I'm kind of a newbie, at least to a 50 amp RV. If I have a 50 amp RV, I guess that means I have to use a 50 amp pad, or can I still use a 30 amp pad if I'm not going to be using the air conditioner?
Thanks
  • You can run a 50 amp trailer on 15 amps if necessary with the correct adapters. You just have to understand you cannot run everything at once on themlower amperage power.
  • I can run my 15000 BTU A/C and water heater with 30 amps but cannot run my second A/C at fhe same time. On hot summer days we just turn off the water heater to run some second A/C.
  • You will need a 50 to 30 adapter. May not be able to run everything at one time.
  • One of these.....30A male with a 50A female.
Plug into the 30A receptacle and then plug your power cord into the 50A female end

  • Another newbie here. My situation is the opposite. I have a 30A trailer, can I plug into 50A service? Or if the campground advertises as having 50A service can I safely assume they also have 30A service?

Yes, with an adaptor, you can plug your 30A into a 50A outlet. And, yes, you can safely assume if they have 50A, they also have 30A. I've never seen a 50A pedestal that didn't also have 30A. I've heard they exist, but I've never seen one.
  • They do exist. 50 with no 30. Often the RV park will have an adapter you can borrow if that's the case. Not a bad idea to carry your own just in case.
