5.3 vs 6.2

Been looking at 6.2L Chevy Silverados to replace my 5.3L. How much better of a job would the 6.2 compared to the 5.3 do especially when it comes to towing up mountains. My 5.3 really struggles with my 25ft TT going up steep hills or mountains.

I have a friend who has a 6.2L AT4. Awesome engine. Pulls his camper like a champ although I cannot say the same for the truck. It squats more than I am comfortable with, but there are ways to fix that.

Since the OP's question appears to be related to the little engine struggling and there is no reference to improved MPG...how is this relevant?

The diesel discussion usually has someone claiming they can pay off the diesel based on better MPG and then recouping your money becomes a key part of the discussion. Not so here.

To the OP: Yes, the 6.2 will give a noticeable boost in power and as mentioned the newer transmissions with more gears are a big help keeping the engine in it's happy place (rpm wise).

It was a joke because most people bring up how you never recoup your upfront cost only when talking about a diesel engine upgrade, but it never gets brought up in a gas engine upgrade even though the 6.2L requires premium fuel while the 5.3L doesn't. So you are paying about $5k more upfront and you have to use fuel that is 30-60 cents higher all for more towing power. Sounds familiar to a diesel except their is no fuel mileage benefit. However, I was just being facetious, hence the reason I said I was just kidding.......

PS: Most owners say they recoup their money on fuel mileage AND resale(which is true for most). I have never seen anyone in these forums claim they recoup their money on fuel mileage alone.

The transmission matters more than the engine. If you have an older 5.3 with the 4L60E transmission, you will see a great improvement just moving to a newer 5.3 with the 6 or 8 speed trans. The 6.2 become a bonus at that point.

The 6.2l is a great engine and a major upgrade over the 5.3l. You won’t regret getting it.

you would be gaining 55 CI. Would be much stronger up, and down the mountain. Plus with the newer technology. More power again.

Firestone air bags solved that for me, Shiner. The 6.2 is very nice but my 2015 Tahoe's 5.3 did very well too. Much more power than the 2001 or 2007 Tahoes but 2015 had a six speed transmission where the others had four.

New 8 speed 5.3 out pulls my 2016 6 speed 5.3. 2016 is considerably better than the 08 4 speed and 01 5.3 I had. Both old ones had 3.73s, 2016 is a 3.42 and the 2019 was 3.23 or whatever that ratio is.
6.2 10 speed will blow away the 2016. Based on an Escalade I rented. It was a rocket.

I put about 10k quick miles on a 2019 5.3 8 speed and it did not struggle with an 8k flatbed in the Cascades (low altitude).

What year is your 5.3? I've had an early one and it was ok but my 2019 with the 8 speed really pulls nice. I tow 6,000 lbs in the Arizona mountains and am pleased with the power. The 6.2 will pull better for sure but I'm happy with my 5.3
