5 inches of foam board in bed?

The bed rails in my new truck are 4 1/2" taller. Would 5" of foam board be ok or should I build a platform out of 2 x 6's? Is there anyone out there using 4 or 5 inches of foam board in their bed? My camper weighs 1300lbs. Thanks, Vic

Nice looking setup.

I had to build a frame as well. I used 2X4's on the front and sides with three 1X4 cross members, then screwed the whole thing to the bottom of my camper.

What year is that Coachmen, and what does it weigh? Sharp looking set-up.

I sure like seeing things come together. Using the ideas contributed to formulate your solution is always good and can be fun! Make sure you get the pick up bed rubber mat...it is well worth it! I have had mats in all the trucks since early 90's. Have fun with that TC!

I think you have it correct, "your going with the 2 x 6 platform, trimmed down an inch with a rubber mat. Also wedging 2 inches of foam board between the platform and inside of bed is a good idea."

Not sure about screwing the camper to the platform.

Just a follow up. I feel pretty good about going with the 2 x 6 platform. I may trim it down an inch. I set a rubber mat in the bed and screwed the camper to the platform. I also wedged 2" foam board between the platform and inside of bed. Only suspension mod is Stable Loads. It has a little sway to it when the wind blows, but feels good.

Thanks everyone for your help and advise.

See the 3rd mod, being that you do not have an overhang, in bed storage would work for you.

Hi The idea needed is to keep the camper wedged in from the bed front to the wheel wells. This will help keep the camper from sliding around. When raising the camper on a platform you will need to secure the frame so it won't slide in the bed. 2x6 wood will slide on metal. I would make the frame to a snug the shape of the bed with thin foam to protect the bed walls. A couple more cross 2x6's for support. They need to placed to best support the camper floor. Rubber padding is needed between the wood 2x6 or better still on top of the 4x8 sheet of whatever decking you use. Since your camper is narrow, I would add some wood guides to keep the camper square on top of the raised platform in your bed. Bill

I like the idea of another cross member or 2. I plan to liquid nail the frame to the camper when I set it on with a few screws. Thanks all.

I would add a couple more cross members and at least a rubber surface to the top of the frame to keep the camper from sliding. I would add a sheet of ply and a rubber mat myself.
