The biggest pi$$ off for me about my 6.0L was getting hosed so bad on resale, to the tune of $10-$15k less than a similar GM or Ram. Like I posted earlier, a lot of reputable dealers will not take them.
Truth here. Before I bought my new Ram last June I seriously debated new versus used. The problem I found with used on the Cummins and Duramax trucks is they weren't discounted enough to warrant buying used, imo. I did give some serious consideration to buying a used 6.0, which were generally much cheaper, with the expectation of spending a few thousand to bulletproof it. But at the end of the day this is not only my daily driver but also our tow vehicle for vacations, and I decided it wasn't worth rolling the dice on a 6.0.
The nice thing about the pre dpf trucks is that there's no expensive dpf/exhaust system to replace like what's on our trucks. For our farm trucks that's why we stick with pre dpf trucks that will get runned for many miles. Something to consider when purchasing a diesel truck
