AC Question, Ac freezing up

Ok we were out in our trailer last weekened and if I let the AC run from more than an hour it would freeze up. The air flow would reduce drasticly. If I shut it off for about an hours I would get a steady stream of run off and it would work again. And ideas what would cause this? I was at an elevation of 8800 ft. I do not use the AC that much but last year it ran like a champ. Could it be just a little low on gas? if so do they take the same gas that cars and trucks take?

Thank You
Matt
  • x2 on the freeze sensor. Mine was freezing up and I did the normal check the filter, run the fan on high, etc. Decided to lift the cover to check the cleanliness of the coils, and viola.... found the freeze sensor hanging by the wires. It is simply clipped onto the evaporator coil tube and can easily come loose with enough rough roads. I have since learned I can see it from down below. Albeit a bit difficult.

    Ya
  • Keep the return air filter clean
    Keep the evap coil clean
    Run fan on high setting
  • Had that problem for many years in Fla. Raise the temp some so it cycles and keep fan on high. At night after the door is no longer being used you can lower the temp some but keep it on high fan.. Did that on several of our RVs and Boats. And check like said above..
  • Check the freeze sensor. Many seem to get installed in a poor position.
  • Try running the fan on high and continuous and see if that helps. When I bought my current TT, the dealer told me that would help prevent it from freezing up.

Mine would do that on humid nights when I was running A/C all night long... Don't know what causes that... I would just turn it off for a couple of hours and try it again later...
