AC Question

We bought our trav l trailer three years ago and I'm not sure if something is wired incorrectly or not because this was our first. Our trailer is a a Passport 2300BH and here's my question. Every since we bought it new when the AC is on the fan runs continuously. The AC cycles on and off but the fan runs all the time. Last month I spent a night in another trailer that of the same manufacturer but one size larger. His AC doesn't do that at all. AC looks very similar. So did they wire mine wrong at the factory? I am with the group that has a AC with the choice of fan cycling with AC or running continuously.

We usually do not run the AC but when we do, I cycle the fan because I do not like the fan noise.

Ok, I'm an idiot! RTFM.......so the on/off cycles the unit from fan to cool to furnace. I never realized that when on fan there was a choice of selection. By pressing the - or + it cycles from High to Low to AU (for auto). My dad is laughing at me in heaven right now!

Wow, thanks for all the replies! I must be missing something on the thermostat. It is a ducted system with a wall thermostat but I do not remember seeing an auto selection. It cycles from low to high then off.

I keep my fan on high, so the fan runs when the compressor is off. Otherwise, I'd suffocate in our closed off bedroom. When we're alone, I'll keep my door open and run an external fan on the kitchen counter into the bedroom. The fan starting and stopping wakes me up. So I keep it on.

Most ducted installations have a wall thermostat and have a fan on or auto selection and work just like your home system. Most non ducted installations do not provide for fan cycling since the placement of the temperature sensing bulb is such that it needs air movement across it and work like a window unit.

Just some info. On very hot days, you want the fan running on high all the time. The unit can freeze up otherwise, and then you don't get any cooling. That generally happens out here in the desert when temps climb past 100. I was in 113 degrees last year and the air conditioning didn't freeze.

Mine is selectable, but I always run the fan all the time when we can plug in and use it.

Mine is ducted so it cycles if I select auto but I prefer the fan to run all the time so I set it to hi or low fan and let it run. Like another posted it seems to get warm too quick when it shuts down if on auto. And secondly it drowns out any outside noise.

If you have a wall thermostat there might be a fan setting. Hi, Low & Automatic. You want Automatic.

My fan runs all the time, too. Makes for great white noise to block out the racket from those knuckleheads down the way who can't manage to observe quiet hours.

My fan runs all the time as well. I just installed this unit a new to me carrier. Works real well. My old class c was the same way, fan on all the time.

My fan runs all the time; the compressor cycles. It's a very basic AC unit with all the controls on the unit in the ceiling; no ducts.
When I first got it I didn't like it; I didn't see the need for the fan to run all the time. So, I rewired it so the fan and compressor cycled on and off together. This didn't workout well. The camper would feel really hot and stuffy without the fan. Then it would all come on and cool it way down. Then, it would warm up and feel hot and stuffy again. Also, the noise coming on and off would kind of wake me up sometimes at night.
I put the wiring back the way it was so the fan just runs all the time and the camper stays nice and cool.

Our fan runs all the time on our roof air. The compressor cycles as needed.
It's a stand alone without ducts, and all controls are on the unit.

All of the AC's we have ever had completely shut down when they reached the temp we set.

Do you have the fan switch on the thermostat set to the, "Auto," position?
