Added Bilsteins to Truck

After 70K miles on the original shocks I decided it was time to replace them. I did some reading and looking and decided on Bilstein. Did not want a shock that needed to be adjusted because in New Hampshire with the snow and road salt the adjusters would probably******out in no time. Called Bilstein and told them my application. They gave me the correct part #'s. Bilstein does not sell direct so I went to the interweb and found the best price and ordered them up. Delivered this week so I started surgery. The rears were a piece of cake. No problem at all. The fronts on the other hand were a PITA! Had to take a cosmetic add-on fender flare off and then the inner plastic wheel well just to get at the top shock nut. But, I persevered and got the job done. The OEM shocks were all junk. They were not doing there job! I can only imagine a big improvement will benoticed with the TC on. :B

    Changed mine out after 60,000 miles. Also went with Bilstein. They are great shocks !!

    Good job. Better man than me. Had my Bilsteins 5100s installed for me. Nice shocks for sure.

    Those other 3 mods I would like to do too but not sure I am going to keep my 2006 Dodge 5.9 CTD 3:73 auto 4x4 with only 120,000 miles. Might trade up to a newer Dodge Dually.

    Just did bilstein 4600hd last week
    The difference from oe is unreal
    Bob-go for it but get the 4600
    5100 for off road not tc

    I have had the Bilstein 4600 on both my 2500HD and 3500 for 10 and 5 years respectively . The fronts developed a problem with the bottom rubber mounting bushing . I notified Bilstein and they sent me 4 new front shocks . The new shocks have a redesigned bushing mount .

    Being curious I clamped one end in the vise and tried pumping up an down . The old shocks felt identical to the new ones . I was impressed . No sign of leaks . The 2500HD had 130k on them and the 3500 had 40k with a 1k plow hanging off the front for 5 months a year .It is literally ridden hard and put away wet .

    As a reference , the OEM shocks on the 2500HD had less than 20k when removed . You could move them up and down with 2 fingers .

    Just one mans experience .

    Now you tell me. Had 5100's installed recently. So far I'm very impressed with the ride with the camper loaded. If the 5100's don't last I'll go with the 4600's.

    When I called Bilstein and told them what I had and was going to be carrying a TC, they changed the rear shock to part # 24-186575. These are supposedly engineered for carrying a TC.
