Air Bag issues/new Install

Hey all,

With spring around the corner, I went to re-insure the tow vehicle and wanted to install my on board air kit that the better half got me for xmas. It was the Air Lift Analog Control System - Heavy Duty Compressor Kit.

Install was pretty easy, but when I went to test the system and inflate the Firestone airbags that were previously installed to 40ish PSI, I heard a bang and upon inspection, the wire support wrap ruptured. Looks like it was due to rust.

Well I ordered up a set of air lift 5000 bags and spent a Saturday installing them.

check out the video, might help someone. Hardest part was removing the old ones.

  • I use a bicycle pump as my compressor. Twenty bucks and replaceable at any Walmart or bike shop. Just amazing the rust you northerners have on your trucks.

Just got to ask why Air Bags with a 4,000# TT? Do you haul other heavy items in the bed.
  • Looks like my my signature did not update- I now have a toy hauler but prior to that, had 2 utility quads on an atv deck that was in the back of my truck. At that time weight in the box was about 1400 lbs excluding tongue weight of the smaller trailer. Now everything is in the toy hauler other than the kids dirt bikes… those are now in the box of the truck.
  • You would be suprised at the trucks we install air bags on because they squat pretty bad when hooked up to what I would'nt consider an issue.
